Gift Ideas For Videographers (And Future Filmmakers)
Nowadays, a lot of people take videos with their phones and they make it work. Yes, some are great quality but if you know a videographer/filmmaker or someone wanting to take videography to the next level, you can help them take that step with some of these great gifts.
There are so many great gift ideas for videographers and I understand not everyone wants to buy them an expensive camera. Don’t worry, we broke it down in various categories including many accessories that will be beneficial for any videographer to have.
Cameras
There are three amazing cameras that we would recommend:
Canon EOS Rebel T6i Digital SLR
This is one of the most popular DSLR cameras out there and it’s an upgrade from the Canon T3i (which was one of the most popular ones but apparently they no longer sell because of the new versions). This camera is very popular with big Youtube stars (which we’ll list shortly) so you have a plenty of sample videos to check out to see if you like the quality.

We would also recommend accessories that go with this camera such as external mics, lighting, etc, which we’ll list later in this post.
Canon EOS 70D Digital SLR Camera with 18-135mm STM Lens
Yet another popular DSLR camera, especially with Youtubers and filmmakers, this is an upgrade from the Canon T6i camera. You’ll be able to check out the quality of the videos from the Youtubers list below to see how good it comes out.
We would also recommend accessories that go with this camera such as external mics, lighting, etc, which we’ll list later in this post.

Nikon D7100 24.1 MP DX-Format CMOS Digital SLR
There’s not much to say about the Nikon D7100 besides it’s one of the best DSLR cameras on the market and it’s worth the cost.
We would also recommend accessories that go with this camera such as external mics, lighting, etc, which we’ll list later in this post.

Still need help deciding which camera to go with? Everyone will have their own personal preference and although, I would recommend a DSLR camera, I understand it’s not for everyone. So, I’ve compiled a quick list on what some popular Youtubers use as their camera of choice for their videos:
HauteBrilliance – Canon EOS 70D
BFvsGF – Canon Powershot ELPH 330 HS
ConnorFranta – Canon T3i (which has been discontinued) but the Canon EOS Rebel T6i is the newest version of this camera out there now.
CutiePieMarzia – Canon PowerShot G7 X
TrickShotting – Canon G7X
ClothesEncounters – Canon T3i (which has been discontinued) but the Canon EOS Rebel T6i is the newest version of this camera out there now.
JennPex – Canon EOS 5D Mark III
LaurDIY – Canon T3i (which has been discontinued) but the Canon EOS Rebel T6i is the newest version of this camera out there now.
McJuggerNuggets – Canon EOS 70D
Zoella280390 – Canon S120
iiSuperWomanii – Canon VIXIA Mini X
KingBach – Canon VIXIA Mini X
Memory Cards
SanDisk Extreme PRO 128GB UHS-I/U3 SDXC Flash Memory Card
Every video camera needs memory cards and one of the best ones around is the SanDisk Extreme PRO 128GB. This memory card is engineered to capture 4k ultra high definition videos.
Lexar Professional 1000x 64GB SDXC UHS-II/U3 Card
Another option would be the Lexar Pro 1000x SD card as this is great for taking HD video up to 4k resolution.
Video Editing Software
Adobe Premiere Pro
There are plenty of good video editing software but ultimately, Adobe Premiere Pro is what you’ll want. This is what a lot of filmmakers use to edit their films and it’s compatible with both PC and Mac computers (for instance, Final Cut Pro is for Mac only).
Also, Adobe has a creative suite membership that will give you access to all Adobe products including Premiere, Photoshop, After Effects and more.
Audio Recorders and Mics
If the videographer you know has a DSLR camera to do their video work, the built-in mic will not be the best option. So, getting them an external mic or an audio recorder will make their video sound amazing. Here are some that we have personally used and would recommend.
RodeMic Pro
One of the best external mics for video is the RodeMic Pro. Look it up, I guarantee you that every site will at least mention one of the RodeMic’s, depending on what you’re looking for.
Audio-Technica AT899 Lavalier Microphone
In case you’re looking for a lavalier mic for interviews and other instances where you need to clip on a mic to your clothing, the Audio-Technica AT899 is probably one of the best ones on the market right now.
Zoom H6 Six-Track Portable Recorder
The Zoom H6 audio recorder is a perfect match to capture great audio that is completely separate from the camera. The Zoom H6 can record up to six different tracks at once, which would be extremely handy if you have an external mic and a lavalier mic both needing to be recorded.
There are endless gift ideas for any videographer including lighting, stabilizers, tripods, and much more but ultimately, it’s not about the type of equipment, it’s how you use it. If help them get the essentials with the camera, mic and memory card, that’s enough to shoot a good short film or an entire wedding.
Let us know what other gift ideas you’d recommend on videographers.
